Local Context

A New Village With Older Septic Records

Fox Crossing is one of the Fox Valley's newest municipalities. Residents west of Little Lake Butte des Morts voted to incorporate in April 2016, and the village took effect on April 20, 2016. The rest of the Town of Menasha joined the village that September, and the town ceased to exist (Village of Fox Crossing, Incorporation Information).

What that means for your septic system: permits and soil tests issued before 2016 will usually list the Town of Menasha, not Fox Crossing. When you're searching for your system's records or reading an old real estate file, look under both names. The county records are kept by the Winnebago County Zoning Department, which handles POWTS for the village.

Sewered homes here feed two different plants: the village utility sends east-side wastewater to the Neenah-Menasha plant and west-side flows to the Fox West Regional plant (Village of Fox Crossing, Utilities). The utility's lines also reach beyond the village: the Village of Harrison lists Fox Crossing Utilities among the sewer providers serving parts of that village (Village of Harrison, Water & Sewer). Homes beyond these networks are where Fox Crossing septic services come in. When one of their systems has to be replaced, Winnebago County can review the plans for a home's mound or at-grade system itself, without sending them to the state (Wisconsin DSPS, designated agents).

Local Rules

Old Town Permits, Same County Schedule

A system first permitted under the Town of Menasha name runs on the same Winnebago County schedule as one put in last year: a service visit at least every three years, with the tank and any pump chamber pumped each time (Winnebago County Sanitary Maintenance Program). Wisconsin has had every county tracking its systems and mailing reminders since October 1, 2019 (Wisconsin DSPS). How the state minimum and the county's stricter version fit together is covered in our guide to the three-year rule.

At the end of every visit, Fox Crossing septic services from us include reporting the work to the county, so all that's left for you is to file our findings with your house records.

New Construction

Growing Fast: Septic for New Construction

As new homes go up on the village's edges, some sites will be served by sewer and others by private systems. If you're building where sewer isn't available, our Fox Crossing septic services include the full installation path: a soil evaluation by a certified soil tester, system design, a county sanitary permit and installation. Ask about your lot before you finalise plans.

Close to Home

Fox Crossing surrounds much of Menasha and borders both Neenah and Grand Chute, so we're regularly in all three.

FAQ

Fox Crossing Septic Services FAQ

My permit says Town of Menasha. Is it still valid?

Yes. The system didn't change when the municipality did. The permit stays with the property in Winnebago County's records.

I'm building on the edge of the village. Will I have sewer?

Only if the lot is inside the sewer service area, so ask Fox Crossing Utilities first (Village of Fox Crossing, Utilities). If sewer isn't available, the lot needs a soil test and a county sanitary permit before a private system can go in.

How do I know when my system is due?

Winnebago County mails a notice. You can also call the Zoning Department or check the date on your last pumping report.

Do you handle commercial properties?

Yes. Tell us the tank size and what the building is used for when you book.

What if I miss the county deadline?

Winnebago County can cite you, but its maintenance page says the citation is dismissed once the overdue report and an administrative fee reach the county by the date in the letter. Call us right away and we'll get the report done.
